Rug Store in Downers Grove
Our showroom has stood on Ogden Avenue since 2002. Walk in and there are thousands of handmade rugs on the floor — stacked, rolled and hanging — and most of them never make it onto this website. We are a family-owned direct manufacturer, which means the people who answer your questions here are the same people who put the rugs on the looms.
Downers Grove homes, and what actually works in them
We have laid rugs in most corners of this town — the older homes near the historic district with their narrow hallways and original floors, the mid-century houses off Maple, and the new builds with open-plan great rooms that swallow an 8×10 whole. Two things we tell almost every neighbor who walks in: measure before you fall in love with a rug, and choose wool if the room gets real traffic. Wool resists stains naturally, springs back under furniture, and lasts decades rather than seasons. If you are not sure what size a room needs, our rug size guide walks through it room by room.
Made on our own looms — including yours
Because we manufacture, we can do things a store cannot. Re-color a design. Change its proportions. Weave a rug to a size that does not exist in any catalogue. A custom rug starts around three weeks for simpler pieces; the finest hand-knotted work can take up to nine months, and we will tell you honestly which one you are asking for before you commit. See how it works on our custom rugs page.
Stair runners, measured on site
Plenty of Downers Grove houses have a staircase that no standard runner fits — a turn, a landing, an odd width. We measure in your home, make the runner to those measurements, and install it ourselves. Straight runs, landings and curved stairs. Details on the stair runners page.
Cleaning and repair, picked up from your door
Rugs are hand-washed in our own facility — never pushed through a machine — and usually back with you in 10 to 14 days. Repairs, re-fringing, serging and pet-damage restoration are all done by hand, in house. We collect from Downers Grove homes on request, and when we return the rug we move the furniture and re-lay it ourselves. Call us for pickup and pricing: (630) 324-6567. See it in your own light before you decide
A rug that looks right under showroom lighting can look like a different rug in your living room at four in the afternoon. So we bring a selection to your home, lay them out, and leave you to live with them for a moment. No charge and no obligation — and being a few minutes away, we can usually do it the same week.
Questions we get from Downers Grove neighbors
Do you sell rugs that are not handmade?
We carry some machine-made pieces for budgets and high-mess rooms, and we will say plainly which is which. Anything woven on our own looms is marked as ours.
How much does it cost to clean a rug?
It depends on size, fiber and what happened to it — a wool rug with pet damage is not the same job as a routine wash. Call us with the dimensions and we will quote it honestly over the phone.
Can you fix a rug the dog chewed?
Usually, yes. Chewed corners, missing fringe, unravelling edges and worn spots are all repairable by hand. Bring it in or send a photo.
Do I have to buy to have you come out?
No. Bring us a measurement and a photo of the room and we will tell you what size to look for, even if you buy nowhere near us.
